The Pamplemousses Botanical Garden is one of the most visited tourist sites of Mauritius. This garden of several hectares is located in Pamplemousses in the north of Mauritius. It is the first tropical garden created in the world by the famous French Botanist Pierre Poivre. It now bears the name of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, a former Prime Minister of Mauritius.
The Pamplemousses Botanical Garden has 600 plants species including a hundred different varieties of palms, spices garden, magnificent baobabs, native and medicinal plants, aquatic plants such as giant water lilies, flat-water lilies, Lotus and water hyacinths. You will also discover animals such as the Java deer and the giant tortoises of the Seychelles.
